Our Team
Don Chalmers, Jr.
President
Don brings over 30 years experience as a fundraising professional to the SparrowHawk team. A skilled facilitator and engaging trainer, Don has worked with volunteer boards, government agencies, and planning committees. His career includes successful capital projects, cultivation of major gifts from individuals, facilitation, training and strategic planning.
Don is currently Adjunct Faculty at The Evergreen State College, teaching two sections of Grantwriting and Nonprofit Development in the Evening and Weekend Studies Program. Don is a member of NDOA and Executive Alliance. He holds a law degree from the University of Oregon.
Margaret Foley
Vice President
Margaret Foley adds over 25 years of experience in communications, publications and project management to SparrowHawk’s capabilities. Margaret has written grants to state, federal, corporate and foundation sources that secured millions of dollars for client projects and programs.
Her background also includes a firm grounding in client service, project management and graphic design and production. In addition to keeping SparrowHawk’s projects on time and on budget, Margaret has designed and produced effective case statements, test case statements, brochures, and other development publications. She has a BA in English from Whitman College and is a member of Puget Sound Grantwriters Association.
Bridget Ray
Development Associate/Marketing Support
Bridget Ray has over 18 years diverse work experience in the public, private and tribal sectors. Her skills include nonprofit planning and fundraising training, capital campaign support, project management, leadership development, strategic planning, funding research and grant writing. She holds dual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Environmental Sciences degrees from The Evergreen State College. A member of NDOA, she is certified as a Non-profit Technical Assistance Trainer by the Non-profit Assistance Center and in Basic Mediation by the Dispute Resolution Center. Bridget is a founding board member of the Lushootseed Language Institute and an active Potlatch Fund volunteer. A member of the Washington Canoe Society, Bridget participates in the annual Tribal Canoe Journey.
Jody Suhrbier
Senior Development Associate
Prior to joining SparrowHawk, Jody was the founder and principal of Ardor Consulting, a firm specializing in grant development. Her 10 years experience includes working with non-profits in the areas of social services, arts and culture, education and research institutes. Jody is a skilled researcher and grantwriter, contributing her expertise and professionalism to all phases of client support. Jody has a Master of Nonprofit Management from Regis University in Colorado, and a BS from the University of Washington. She has completed the Grant Proposal Writing Certification program through the Grantsmanship Center in California, is a member of the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association as well as the American Association of Grant Professionals.
